The dentists at Acadian Smiles in Meteghan perform a range of oral surgeries to treat dental issues and help improve oral health.
What Is Oral Surgery?
The diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and defects of the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, teeth and jaws are known as oral surgery.
While we always use the least invasive treatment option for a given dental problem, there are times when less invasive treatment options are simply not enough and oral surgery is required.
A frenectomy is a simple oral surgery to remove a frenum when it is restricting oral function. Frenums are small folds of tissue that connect areas in your mouth, such as your cheeks, tongue, or lips, to your gums.
They are a normal part of the mouth and do not normally cause issues. However, if they do cause any restrictions with eating or speaking, your dentist can perform a frenectomy to remove the frenum and relieve the condition.
Tooth Extractions & Wisdom Tooth Removal
While saving a natural tooth is always preferable, there are times when your dentist may need to extract a tooth that's badly damaged by decay, gum disease or injury.
Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to emerge in the back corners of a healthy adult mouth and may need to be removed if they cause problems with oral hygiene.
